RSJ CD-Writer and OS2AHCI.ADD ?
(too old to reply)

Hallo,

I thought I would reinstall RSJ CD-Writer (I even have a valid license
for the last version).
At the same time I a using OS2AHCI.ADD.
I cannot get RSJ CD-Writer to attach the drive and assign a new drive
letter. Anyone have a clue of how to achieve that ?
If all fails, how do I burn an ISO image to CD-ROM under OS/2 ?

Which build of os2ahci.add?

I'm still using RSJ v5.05 along with the build of os2ahci.add supplied
with eCS2.2beta2:-
Vendor: D Azarewicz
Revision: 1.32
Date/Time: 10 Nov 2013 07:58:57

I do have the Arca Noae version which is also 1.32 but built a few days
later but am not using it as causes problems on my system, see
https://mantis.arcanoae.com/view.php?id=249 System cannot boot with
eSATA drive attached.

While I've been typing this email I have inserted a CDRW, started RSJ CD
Writer, attached the drive as Z: copied some files to it, Finalised the
disc, reinserted the disc and checked that all worked fine.

That was interesting because I just realised that was the first time I
had used RSJ since installing a second DVDRW which is exactly the same
model as the already installed DVDRW and I have not yet figured out how
to make RSJ be selective about which of the DVDRW drives to use. At
least I knowe now that it will default to the first DVDRW ie on SATA1
rather than the DVDRW on SATA2.

There is a choice of software: cdrecord, cdrecord2, dvddao which I think
are all on hobbes and dvdtoys which is a package from ecomstation.ru

Hi Lars

A further thought: When using the AR release of os2ahci.add I found that
LOCKCDR.FLT could not load see https://mantis.arcanoae.com/view.php?id=228

If you REM this driver I seem to recall that you will need to add device
information to the RSJ cddrv.inf file.

1) I am using the very same version of OS2AHCI.ADD as you do (the build
date/time is also exactly the same)

2) I am using RSJ 6.03. I don't know in how far that makes a difference.
What I can say: it does not load any additional drivers apart from
CDWFS.IFS and the daemon CDWFSD.EXE:
no LOCKCDR.FLT, RSJSCSI.SYS etc.

3) how would you find out what string to add to cddrv.inf ?
A long time ago I somehow managed to add this string for the AOPEN
CD-ROM (which made it into their cddrv.inf) but I cannot remember how I
did that.

4) Is LOCKCDR.FLT meant to detect the proper drive info if I don't have
the correct entry in cddrv.inf ?

For me, the system will trap if I have LOCKCDR.FLT installed.
Funny enough, LOCKCDR.FLT loads and even tells me that it converted my
CD-ROM to a CD-Writer device. But shortly before the WPS shows up the
system will trap.

While LOCKCDR.FLT is not necessary I believe RSJSCSI.SYS is still required.

I could be wrong but suggest you re-run the Install.

Yes, it uses a line like this:-

BASEDEV=LOCKCDR.FLT -I:"DVDRAM GH24NSC0"

where DVDRAM GH24NSC0 is the full name of the burner.

I do suggest a quick read of the relevant parts of the cdwdoc.pdf -
should be in the installed directory - just in case there have been any
changes between 5.05 and 6.03

-snip-

FWIW, here are the relevant lines from my config.sys:

rem *** RSJ CD-Writer File System ***
rem obsolete: DEVICE=C:\CDWFS\RSJSCSI.SYS
IFS=C:\CDWFS\CDWFS.IFS
rem works better if rsjtemp directory is on a HDD rather than a virtual
dirve:
RUN=C:\CDWFS\CDWFSD.EXE -p "H:/RSJTEMP" -c20000 -b4096 -t2 -i3 -s0
rem superseded by Dani's drivers: BASEDEV=RSJIDECD.FLT
rem obsolete: BASEDEV=LOCKCDR.FLT

One caveat is that when the drive is attached via RSJ, do not to try to
use the drive as its un-attached drive letter via the WPS etc. ISTR
something about lockcdr.flt's purpose was to prevent doing this. I also
recall something about entering all those parameters in cddrive.inf
manually with a text editor, but that was with earlier versions. What I
don't recall is how the information is generated.

I use v6.03 but not os2ahci.add.

HTH,
Pete

Both cdrecord2 and dvddao can burn data cds. The versions I am using are:

cdrtools2-2.01.01a04.zip 998,031 2006-01-26
dvddao-2.0.6.zip 219,461 2010-10-10

Both are still available on Hobbes.

Here are the relevant lines from my config.sys:

IFS=F:\OS2\BOOT\UDF.IFS /Q
IFS=F:\OS2\BOOT\CDFS.IFS /Q /W
DEVICE=F:\OS2\BOOT\OS2CDROM.DMD /Q
DEVICE=F:\OS2\MDOS\VCDROM.SYS

device=g:\aspi\aspinkk.sys
device=g:\aspi\aspirout.sys

BASEDEV=OS2AHCI.ADD /s /n /f

BASEDEV=IBMATAPI.FLT

BASEDEV=OS2ASPI.DMD /SHARE /ALL

Here are the contents of the cmd files I use to burn iso images.

cdrecord2 -v lockdrive=i speed=16 dev=0,1,0 %1

dvddao -s 16 -e -n --verify --lock i -d 0,1,0 %1

The parameter is the fully qualified filespec of the iso image. If you don't already know it, the scsi address of your
optical drive can be discovered by running cdrecord2 with the -scanbus option.

The cdr tools package includes mkisofs2.

Cdrecord2 can also burn audio cds.

Here is the content of the cmd file I use to burn all of the wav files in a directory to an audio cd:

cdrecord2 -v -pad -eject gracetime=2 driveropts=burnfree dev=0,1,0 -audio %1\*.wav
