I recently updated PM123 to 1.41b2 at Hobbes and
http://maazl.de/project/pm123/ mainly because 1.41b1 had some serious bugs.
Well, there are probably still some bugs hidden, waiting to be found. ;-)

The 1.4x branch adds new features like
- nested playlists and bookmarks
- really gapless playback
- play cue sheets directly, e.g. to play CDs encoded into a single FLAC file
- play folder content directly without copying the files into a playlist
- fast file discovery
- digital room correction
- recording plugin to use PM123 as sound processor
- PulseAudio client for local network streaming
- many new remote commands
See change log for details:

with 1.41b2 plays in mono. Playing with 1.37 plays it in stereo.

Where did you get this information? It plays stereo here. Although it is
only mid side stereo mode and the quality is rather poor due to 96 kbps.

Well, 96 Kbps is better than my ears are, and that is what they make
available. I assume that it is mono, because the indicator, to the
left of the 96 Kbps indicator, has brackets on only one side, with
1.41b2, while 1.37 shows brackets around both sides.
