Discussion:
QupZilla 1.4 and newer - unknown problem

Well, the problem is that QupZilla simply refuses to start, leaving
behind only the classic Window List.

If I try to start it under a command window, it's the same (no Window
List, the program simply does not start).

I tried to take a peek at POPUPLOG.OS2, seeing only a bunch of old
Firefox crashes (which don't have anything to do with QupZilla).

I'd like to try QupZilla as a temporary replacement for Firefox, even
if I don't rely too much on QT4, but really I can't figure out how to
make it work. Needless to say, I installed (via yum) everything listed
on the readme.os2 file.

Did someone of you have the same issue?

Ciao Mentore,
did you update the dlls, especially
3. yum install gcc-stdc++-shared-library
4. yum install gcc-supc++-shared-library
required by the latest versions?
Just lemme try that (I seem to remember these updates are not present
in the docs)....

Tried: it seems that gcc-stdc++-shared-library-4.4.6-15.oc00.i386 is
obsolete and superseded by libstdc++-4.4.6.17-1.oc00.i386 (already
installed).

The same goes for gcc-supc++-shared-library-4.4.6-15.oc00.i386. So,
nothing gets installed...

Thanks the same!

Where do I find gcc-stdc* and gcc-supc* ? -- without using yum.

The last time I tried to use yum to install anything, it forced me to
change some paths (or move some files to where *it* insisted they had to
be), what it installed didn't work, and then I had to restore from a backup.

If I execute qupzilla.exe from the command line I get:

'SYS0002: The system cannot find the file specified. "Z"'

If double-click qupzilla.exe it just brings up the Properties notebook.

By contrast, I just installed qupzilla on a Windows machine: one exe
file to download, which, when executed installed everything needed, then
asked me if I wanted to run the program, which seems to work OK.

Maybe I'm getting to old to persist with OS/2. Linux seems to be getting
more user-friendly, OS/2 less so.

OK, thanks. Now qupzilla does work, but it won't play YouTube videos --
no Play button, no error message.

I don't think Qupzilla supports plugins or webm so no way to play.
Perhaps there is a way to download the videos and use MPlayer or VLC to
play them.

Through Flash or webm? As far as I know our port does not currently
support plugins. Someone could add support as most of the code is there
to support Netscape style plugins and the Windows port probably does
have the support working and enabled.

Just to let you know, I solved my problem with QupZilla and all the other QT4 internet application. The problem was an old QNetwork DLL, so I updated all the QT4 distro to the latest and magic!, it worked fine.

Hi Mentore,

Any particular reason to try to run 1.4? I have 1.5 running here
without problems, that is apart from the known bookmarks problem.

I installed from the zip - never could get yum to work and I don't
like how it sets programs up.

Have you tried running it from a command session to see what dlls it
can't find. That is the first thing I do when some program does not
want to run.

I've just installed 1.6.3 which seems to work OK.

Mentore does mention trying the command line "If I try to start it under
a command window, it's the same (no Window

I guess that Mentores installation has a missing support file. I thought
that should not be possible using the yum/rpm install method - isn't
that 1 of its "selling points"?

It is supposed to be one of its selling points but, at least way back,
rpm hell was a common curse much like Windows dll hell. Being one of the
first package managers it had bugs that I assume have mostly been worked
out and only using one repository should avoid most of the problems.
Personally I haven't been too happy using it as at least for me it
doesn't meet the advertised advantages.
