Discussion:
PMDraw /2 latest version is on Hobbes - plus, a request
(too old to reply)

Hello all.

Having been asked to, I decided to pack together the last release of
PMDraw/2, a CAD/Presentation EWS for OS/2.

I uploaded it on Hobbes, but I'm unsure if I can do it. I could not
find copyright informations into the scarce documentation which came
with the software, and I choose to upload it because Hobbes already
hosts an earlier version
(/pub/os2/apps/graphics/imagepro/pmdraw2.zip).

Should someone know better about this issue, please let me know, so
that I can ask hobbes to delete it.

Thanks!

Should you decide to upload it on Hobbes or other OS/2 related sites,
it would be really a good thing to do.

I tried to search for Alan C. Warren to ask him for sources, but
without luck.

Sometimes there's luck in life :-)

Well then... Alan, do you still have PMDraw/2 sources? And, given the
case, can you release them as opensource or public domain? Or maybe
there are licensing problems (ISTR PMDraw/2 was an IBM EWS licensed
software, so some restrictions may apply)?

Thanks in any case. And by the way, PMDraw/2 is a piece of cake :)

Not a real answer, but...

EWS (IBM Employee Written Software) is, by default, copyright by IBM.
A lot, but not all, of EWS software was made available to the general
public, at the IBM web site (not sure if it still exists). The
programs that were NOT made available were licenced for IBM employees,
and retirees, to use, but they had to get them from the IBM internal
repository, under agreement that tjhey would not make them available
to others. There is probably something about not posting available EWS
software to other sites too (but that is a vague memory). The licence
document is (was?) available at the EWS web site.

On the other hand, IBM seems to just ignore anything that happens with
OS/2 software. PMDRAW2, and PMDRAW3, are (or were) on the Walnut Creek
CD ROM, dated March 1994, so it would seem to be in the public domain.

Thanks!
An EWS license, FWIW. You might as well ignore silly licenses, because
you are allowed to modify it but you are not allowed to distribute
modified versions. In theory you are allowed to distribute parts
("partial copy") of the program, and/or patches with the original file
("modify the Program and merge it into another program").

Of course Doug is also right, it's (c) IBM. AFAICT an IBM FTP server
points to another FTP server which no longer exists (ftp.pc.ibm.com) ,
and Lenovo tends to store only legacy pccbss-files required for
support. There are several mirrors and copies of the former os2_ews
directory.
